Can We Talk About Kim Soo?

Soo… can we talk about Kim Soo?

Before you question who or what is kim soo, let me ask you – don’t you think the best destinations in life are the kinds of places you stumble upon accidentally? And often is the case with this hidden gem of a place, is that you don’t even know it’s exactly what you’re looking for until you find it…

Well, an example of this is Kim Soo, Seminyak, Bali.

I recently got back from my travels to Bali with a bunch of girlfriends. It was one of the most amazing adventures thanks to the company, the experiences, and super importantly, the food…

If you didn’t know already, Bali is a baller for brunch. I’m talking all the avocado toast you can envisage to ricotta hotcakes, breakfast burritos to coffees with cacao sprinkled slogans stamped on them. And, what’s even better, is the price you pay. I would say that most decent places in Bali (specifically seminyak!) were 1/3 of the price of London. So for example, if you paid £30 for brunch and drinks in London it would be £10 in Bali. And Kim Soo was no exception.

We were en route to Sea Circus for the second time (also a fantastic foodery which I’ll tell you about in another blogpost!) when we passed a discreet yet chic building with monochrome decoration and greenery foliage dangling from the decking. It immediately caught my eye, but the team were already geared up for the sea circus delicacies, so we committed. Upon arrival, we realized we were too late for brunch and nobody wanted what the lunch menu had to offer so I offered to run over to the ‘monochrome’ place to see if there was a table for 5. Luckily enough, there was one more table left… which was not only for 5, but served brunch all day (my kinda place 😉 )

Soon enough we were presented with the menu and it was a sight to be marveled at. Everyone always laughs at me when I go out to eat because I am always extra and order 3 drinks. Kim Soo was no exception ahaha. But hopefully you’ll understand why…

There were freshly cut coconuts filled with refreshing coconut water…

Frothy flat whites…

Gorgeous green juices…

The girls also tucked into some melt in your mouth milkshakes.

For food, I enjoyed avocado on toast with a side of bacon and siracha mayo and ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter, berried coulis and banana.

I can equivocally say I was quite literally induced into a food coma but it was so worth it.

So I bet you’re thinking right now that all sounds amazing right? Well it gets better…

A hop skip and a jump from your seat (alright alright I guess for me it was a roll crawl and a belly flop :P) was the Kim Soo shop where all your homeware dreams come true. It was completely my aesthetic. And if you’re into boho chic, it would be yours too. Think marble, gold, rose gold and rattan. I wanted to move in. As I have (as of a few months ago) just bought my first flat, I was very excited at the prospect of decking it out with a couple of things from my travels – and that’s exactly what I did.

Those that know me no I love a good XO… I always use it when ending my texts. I was perusing a beautifully handcrafted sea shell cross.. or so I thought it was when I turned it on its head and realized I could have this as an ‘x’ then I suddently thought, wait a second, are these letters? And low and behold, I found an ‘O’! ‘Oh’ my lord I thought 😉 I’ve struck gold! And now, the beautiful letters are hanging up on my industrial shelf. (Let me know in the comments below if you want me to do a homeware style post with all the pieces I’ve picked up from my travels!)

So there you have it, the diamond in the rough. Hopefully you can see how I couldn’t not talk about this jewel. So next time you’re out exploring somewhere or thinking about returning to the same place twice, keep your eyes peeled and maybe you’ll find your Kim Soo too 😛
