Edgy Evening Look

 In Style & Beauty

All black errythang is a known style statement for one reason and one reason only… it always works! It’s no secret that black goes with everything… but how do you style it so it doesn’t look boring and bland, especially in the evening? Well hopefully this post can shed some light… (or darkness in this case! haha)

I call this the ‘edgy evening look’ because it’s dressy enough to wear to go out for drinks or dinner in the evening, but also has that edgy streak with the studded shoes, aviator jacket and ripped denim so that it’s versatile depending for a variety of destinations. The main trick to make all black not look boring is in the little details.

First, you want to start with a good pair of black jeans as your canvas. They’re always figure flattering and can be so versatile with accessories shoes and tops. I opted for Topshop high waisted ripped skinny jeans because I wanted a relaxed stance to the style. If you were going somewhere slightly smarter you could go sans-rips!

Next I added my black long sleeved body from Asos – I always think low v necks look dressier and more ‘date night’ than if you had a crew neck so thought it would work well for the evening look. Plus, for all you tall torso-ed people like me, they do it in the ‘tall’ section so you don’t get a fedgie… hahaa you know what I’m talking about… the struggle is real!! I’ve linked below to the exact one…

The next question was which shoes… and let me ask you this: have you been lusting after the much coveted Valentino rock pumps? Well, tell me about it, ‘stud’! But, I wish to answer your prayers because I found these amazing pair of Valentino rockstud dupes from Asos! They’re a great cheaper option – at only a fraction of the price – £40 (before student discount!) compared to about £450! And, they add that extra bit of sparkle and dressiness to the look while also remaining edgy with the studs.

Of course it goes without saying that I needed a jacket in this bracing British weather and for me, this is the best part of the outfit.. I got this amazingly warm and luxurious aviator jacket from Maniere de voir, a super cute online boutique. I know aviator jackets are all the rage at the moment and embarrassingly enough I currently have 4 in my wardrobe (don’t judge me hehe!) but this is my absolute favourite. It’s shearling lined in the body with faux fur collar and cuffs. It has these gorgeous belted details which makes it look edgy AF but the leather look makes it appear pretty chic and smart.

Last but not least what is an outfit with a bag… I’m sure I can speak for most of us when I say we’d feel naked without them – and they can add so much to an outfit! I went for my trust Mulberry Lily bag which is just perfect for the evening as it looks dressy but is small enough that you don’t end up packing it full with unnecessary stuff (guilty!) and also has an edgy side to it with the chain.
