Spa day at Hanbury Manor, Hertfordshire

 In Town & Country

Hanbury Manor is one of those magical places you go to hideaway and relax in its tranquil and grand settings when in need of rejuvenation or a pamper… the perfect place for a treat! I visited the estate last month for my birthday for a spot of afternoon tea and spa treatments…

Situated just outside Ware in Hertfordshire, it boasts huge grounds, with tennis courts, a golf club, suites to stay overnight, different parlours for dining and a spa. It’s the ultimate experience.

The building itself looks almost jacobien with its rusted red brick and inside the decor is very country chic.

We talk a short walk around the grounds before we heading inside for afternoon tea…

I wore my new addition to my wardrobe – the highly coveted lace up ribbed white top from asos, with my leather pencil skirt from zara, my pom pom shoes from truffle velvet and my mulberry lily bag to keep things classic and simple.

Once seated, we decided to move into the library, as it is much more cosy and comfortable…

Our afternoon tea soon arrived and we were greeted with a platter of pastries, sandwiches and scones… all that you would expect from a traditional english afternoon tea.

Working our way up from savouries to sweet, everything was delicious and we polished it off so quickly they even brought us seconds… I figured I was allowed, being my birthday and all… calories don’t count right!?

They even brought me out a special birthday cake and sang which was awfully cute.

I think one of the best things about afternoon tea, is the choice of tea! It’s so easy to go for an earl grey or english breakfast but I have a condition when I go to any restaurant… it’s to try something I wouldn’t cook myself at home. In this case, it’s a tea I wouldn’t normally drink at home. I decided to go for a rose tea to complement the sweetness of the pastries and treats. It literally smelt like turkish delight and tasted like it too!

After we’d fully indulged, we headed to the spa, and ensconced ourselves in the jacuzzi, swam gentle laps of the pool and let off steam in the sauna… I couldn’t take many pictures in respect of the other people (and the fact my camera’s not waterproof!) so you’ll have to make do with the one below and my snapchat selfie! Also, if you fancy adding me on snapchat to follow the other fun things I do from time to time, my username is ‘flaxenone’ – DON’T ASK!It’s a nickname… Funnily enough, with Katie Roberts being one of the most common names ever I couldn’t use that and I didn’t realise you can’t change your username until after hahaha…

Following this we went for our treatments. You get escorted through to a dark room lit with candles and zen music setting the mood for the ultimate relaxation. I had a back massage and a facial and what I loved about both is that you can choose your product depending on your skin type and what your skin needs, which makes it all the more healing.

After a couple of hours I was fully refreshed and ready to face the world another year older…
